Never Forget this Memorial Day

Just a reminder that they could always use help. They will be setting up and getting the rods and bait ready from 7-8 am Monday. If you could help, please go to the South access and they will put you to work. It is nothing difficult and any amount of time you can give will be appreciated

Please take a moment to comment in SUPPORT of the proposed changes (additions) to the Class A wild trout list, and Wild Trout list. These stream sections will receive additional protections from being reclassified. Your comment doesn’t have to be lengthy. Just say you support the additions.

A tiny waterway – more a trickle than a stream – winds down through an under-road culvert at the intersection for a small Snyder County community.
A few scattered populations of minnows and macroinvertebrates share the tiny channel un-interrupted until a hose is lowered into the stream from a roadside truck and water is drawn into an approximately 700-gallon tank to be used for a nearby hydroseeding project.
The truck returned for several additional water draws from the same stream later that day.
“Ultimately, when water is drawn from a waterway for whatever reason, the larger the water body, the less the likelihood of an impact (within the aquatic ecosystem within),” said Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC) Manager of Compliance Jeremy Hoffman. “These small streams are not the ideal place to get water, but oftentimes, they are the closest proximity to where a project may be happening. If people are willing to truck water a little bit farther, a larger stream would certainly be the better place to target vs. some of the smaller streams in our area.”
Hoffman admitted this is a best-practice suggestion, but in the case of the reported hydroseeding water draw concern, no regulatory thresholds were breached.

Our apologies for having to recreate this post and rewrite the captions over this evening. While trying to upload a few additional video files separately into the same post, all of the captions were lost and removed. Please share again if you’d like following the edits made for a second time as we try and describe our field work in the Loyalsock Creek earlier today.
We were monitoring 3 AMD Treatment Systems for our partners in Sullivan County, including the Loyalsock Creek Watershed Association, Sullivan County Conservation District, White Ash Land Association.
We were also shooting some video footage with our GoPro Hero 4 to submit to our PA AMR Conference in June to walk and talk about each of the systems, their components, operation, maintenance, and treatment results.

A great day to be outside and enjoying what we all love to do

The PFBC posted the following on their Facebook page
Golden Rainbow Trout are a favorite target of many Pennsylvania anglers. But do you know the difference between golden and palomino Rainbow Trout?
Both species have been selectively bred over time to achieve their unique colors. Golden Rainbow Trout are a product of crossing one golden Rainbow Trout with another golden Rainbow Trout. The palomino is a product of crossing a golden Rainbow Trout with a Rainbow Trout. Palominos are lighter and less vibrant in color and were stocked in PA waters in the late 1960s.
The PFBC currently raises and stocks the more colorful golden Rainbow Trout. You can get an up-close look at goldens at our hatcheries: http://ow.ly/MPov50INrwk
